Iron

We've been without on iron for a number of months and have been using the dryer which hasn't done quite the job so finally today I bought an iron and then felt inspired to work on our old ironing board which is very bedraggled.
Here is the finished product.
So easy.

Projecting

I've got so many boring baby tops that I've decided to revamp so and end bits to them.
Here is lastnights projecting.

My cowboy

I finally got round to sewing the apron and here is the finish product which I'm very pleased with...(Joseph seems pretty happy too?)
Now I'm going to find a hook so that it can be displayed on the kitchen wall.

Vits

It's hard to know what to believe when it comes to the swine flu? Everyone is much a huge fuss over it. Is it mostly media hype? More people die each each from the common flu than they have of swine flu.
Either way, we don't want to get it and we really don't want our kids to get it so although we haven't had the flu shots this is what we are doing for the kids to fortify again sickness.
Joseph has been doing a lot of reading up on what suppliments we can take as a natural way to protect our family. here is what he has discovered.

"One’s best protection is vitamin D3.. One should take 5000 IU a day now and when the disease begins to spread increase the dose to 15,000 IU a day. Vitamin D3 modulates the immune reaction, reducing the chance of an overreaction and stimulates the body to produce what are called antimicrobial peptides, which are powerful killers of viruses that does not involve immunity. This is dose related, which means the higher the dose of vitamin D3 the better the protection. Fish oils
(the best is Carlson’s Norwegian lemon flavored fish oil) also reduce immune overreaction. One teaspoon a day should be sufficient.
For severe symptoms, one teaspoon twice a day. Antioxidants of various kinds also help—this includes, quercetin, curcumin, grape seed extract, vitamin C and natural vitamin E. A good multivitamin/mineral such as Extend Core (www.vrp.com) is also essential."
Dr. Blaylock; board certified neurosurgeon, author and lecturer

Having spoken to an nutritionist about what basic supplements a child should take she recommends a multi, Vitamin C and omega 3 everyday.

Missy takes one Dinochew every day. It's a high quality multi vitamin that taste good and it's shipped worldwide (comes from the UK). The tub has 180 vits in so I only have to buy it twice a year.

She also has one Vitamin C supplement per day which I buy locally.

Then there is the omega 3 fish oils, she has a teaspoon per day.

If she shows any signs of illness then to blast her system she has Sinupret which is an excellent immune booster and although there are only 16 servings in this bottle it is used only when the child is showing signs of sickness so it lasts awhile.

Indi-Mindi takes a drop of Vitamin D everyday and this is what has been recommend to strengthen kids immune systems against the flue.

Other things that are very affective for fighting colds and flu are cloudy apple juice (this is even better than orange juice)
And Pure Grapejuice, it's full of iron and I know of people who drink one glass per day as a supplement.

Patchwork

I've never got into patchwork but I really should because they are so beautiful to look at. This one was a gift from a friend given when Indianna was born and I use everyday to disguise her rather garish rocker which she likes to sit in and observe our goings on. I'm keen to start some long winded winter sewing projects so a patchwork might be the ticket? But before I do that I'm planning on making a large union jack wall hanging for our living room. I just need to get the energy tanks started up.

Fisher Price classics

Do you remember this Fisher Price clock? I had one as a child and loved it, Now 30 years on I feel very nostalgic about some of my old toys and realise how great they were.
I did a search on ebay the other day for fisher price vintage toys because I'd like to get a few for the kids. I happened to find that they have reintroduced this 1968 classic clock for their vintage series. so I bought one for just $16 on ebay for Missy's Christmas present (well maybe it's more for me).
I'm also tempted buy they old record player....I could get carried away here.

Yellow

Yes this tree really is that yellow..it's quite amazing.

My cowboy

My mum is here at the moment and she brought a gift from my sister Martha. A meter of Cath Kidston cowboy print!
I've decided that I'm going to make an apron for Joseph with it which I know he'll use everyday..plus I can hook it up and have it on show.
So here it is cut out and ready to sew.
photo's of Joseph wearing it to follow.

Ahhhh

Ok, this clip is so outrageous I just had to post it.

Home-aholic?

I'm pretty sure that I'm a Home-aholic (Homemaker on Steroids).
I've been thinking about my need/desire/obsession with creative order in the home and how much time I spend trying to achieving it.
I love order I can't even say how much I love it..I even love the word 'Order'. But I also Love being creative (in an orderly fashion) both are an essential part of what brings me pleasure and satisfaction.
I've tried on a number of occasions to convince Joseph that I home make for Him and the family (like it's my way of loving the family, similarly to him going out to work and providing)..I'm not sure if he is totally convinced by my argument (even though he greatly appreciates the way I run our home)the reason for this is because I'm not convinced that I do it for the family either?
I know that even if I lived on my own and no other living soul entered my home from this day on, I would still continue to create and clean to make the home creative and orderly because it brings me pleasure (although other people seeing it is most definitely the icing on the cake) I am compelled to do these things regardless of who sees.
I understand how important it is to do what you love because it's very fulfilling. People who bury their passions and desires for the sake of raising kids can end up feeling like a shell of there former self and not very happy as a result.
Joseph is often saying to me 'in the grand scheme of life does it really matter if everything is tidy etc?' and he's totally right, his values are always relationally based (even if the house is a bomb he is the first to suggest a movie for us to watch together and then think about the dishes afterwards..I on the other hand can't relax and watch a movie until all the dishes are done then I can really enjoy sitting down together). People are so different, eh?
And we have so much to learn from each other.

I guess with any "...aholic' the keys is not to let your passion get in the way of your relationships or become more important then them.
I have much to learn......but I also recognize that being creative is part of me and brings me a lot of joy into my life.

..Just musing.

Falling

And the winner is...

Something North Americans are really good at is celebrating the seasons style.
And I'm totally in to it.
The other day we went for an evening walk and I picked up dozens of beautiful leaves which I pressed for a few days and today Missy and I pegged them to twine which I've draped across the the dinning room. I've decided that I'd rather fully decorate one room than sparsley decorate the whole house.

Ok, here's my second clip.
Is there anyone out there who hasn't seen this video? it's had over 26,000 views and for a good reason.
It's the best entrance of the bride I've ever seen and I love it. There is only two things I don't like about it, 1) The awful brown outfits 2) that I didn't think to do this at my wedding.

I guess I love this clip because it reminds me of how much I love music (and this song totally rocks) and dancing. I don't get to go clubbing much anymore but new years here is the best and I've already booked out sitter because nothing is going to get in the way of me shaking some booty on the dance floor.
This clip makes me realise that humans are sooo cool!

humm

Oh dear, The problem is we've run out of rooms to decorate and these horizontal strips are inspiring me to act!
Now I know why people move from house to house. I've never lived in a fully decorated house which I now do and I'm afraid that it wont be long before I either want to redecorate the rooms or get a house with more rooms for all the ideas I have.

Adjusting

Well I survived the first week on my own with two kids! Joseph went back to work on Monday.
It's a weird combination of having lots of time while Mindi (we call her Indi-Mindi) is sleeping to do things around the house and hang with Missy and then when she is awake it seems like they both want things at the same time and I feel pretty stressed! I'll be feeding Mindi but Missy needs help going to the toilet so I'm there trying to nurse the baby and wipe Missy's bum! or holding the baby whilst getting Missy out of the bath and drying her..or trying to put both down for a nap because they are both tired at the same time...get the picture? The other thing which is new for us is spending so much time at home, I was expecting to be constantly overwhelmed with keeping up with the house but I hardly leave the house so that doesn't seem to be a problem.
Missy would happily go for walks all day so it's adjustment for her to be at home so much and I'd happily be out all day too so that's weird for me..although it's only for a short season. I'm just amazed at how much babies sleep, I'd forgotten.

Here's pic of Missy preparing for the arrival of Nanny and Grampy. she chose this outfit especially for the occasion and here she is holding the canvas painting that she painted for them.
They are here all weekend.
