Well I think we've pretty much cracked it. Joseph put the shelves in today and I've just covered them in fabric (can't be bothered to do any more painting).

This and that

The scrap framing continues. The latest addition is Indi Mindi's foot print and Goggy (Missy's number one pal) The wall is almost complete I only have two frames left which may fit at the bottom (if it all measures up ok?).




It's been a fun project.


Today we are also working on the toy cupboard and trying to finish the inside but the distraction has been another project, Joseph decided to bone a chicken and stuff it!

The inside

This the inside of the toy cupboard door. It's head to toe in family and friends and Missy loves it. The picture at the top is off Missy (left) at 4 months old wearing her dedication dress and Indi Mindi on the right also 4 months old wearing the same dress and lying on the same sheep's skin rug!

This is Joseph and Missy sifting through mud and rocks to find sapphire stones in Montana (the findings are below the photo).



These are ancient arrow heads and scrappers found in the mountains of Montana (pictured).



Behind the photo of Missy getting her weight checked is the predictions of the date, weight and length at birth which was done at the baby shower.

Did the finishing touches to the toy cupboard. I sprayed the fixtures black and have put stripped fabric behind the glass door so we don't have to look at toys! I'm really pleased with this piece and it has made use of an empty corner of the room.
Now I need to work on the side..more to come.

Family tree

I had this idea of a family tree with photo of everyone on.
Because we live so far from family I thought this would be a great way of the kids staying familiar with the family. It's now become a the center piece for my scrap framing wall. I just need to add a few more photos to complete it (like Our own kids!)

for toys

I've been looking for a TV cabinet for a while (not for a TV because we don't have one) for a toy cupboard. I found this one for a bargain but it needed to be painted our uniform colour before passing through the thresh hold of our living room. so for the past week Joseph has been working on it and on the weekend it finally got near enough to being finished to be usable.
In answer to your question about sanding. I never sand anything. What we use is Seal lock or B.I.N which is a very stinky oil based undercoat which blocks all varnish from seeping through. It's dry within 40 minutes and you have to throw the brush away it's that yucky But it saves endless hours and we use it on every painted piece and every door and base board.

valentines

It's getting to that time again. valentines is only a few weeks away and we have just finished making up invites to our own valentines party there will be 20 or so guests and we have managed to get hold of a chocolate fountain for fondue!
The invites were fun to make. I used valentines fabric for the front of the invite and it worked really well.

First attempt

Well my first attempt at scrap framing was an absolute joy!
I managed to find some great frames (although I would of loved to have bigger ones but these were reduced from $25 to $3.99 so that decided it). The best frames to use are called shadow boxes there about an inch of space between the glass and the back of the picture so it's enough to put objects in.
I'll talk you through my first frames.

This big frame is full of various memorabilia from my pregnancy to the birth of Sapphires, including the pregnancy test and scan picture as well as the first foot print and a photo of her just seconds old. I kept all the tags and announcements (it's going to more of challenge to find enough to fill a frame for Indianna as there just isn't that much stuff..always the way with subsequent babies I guess?).



This next one is of me and my dear sister Martha. We shared a room for many years and my favourite wall paper from one the rooms we shared was this Victoria Plum print. I loved it so much I use to keep pressing my glow bug at night so I could look at Victoria..what a babe!



This photo is of Sapphire on her dedication day and the special cake that was made for her by Keri. I've safely kept the iced bib and it was all in one piece until I tried to stick it in these frame, it broke into no less that seven pieces!! So it's now held together with glue, sticky tape, double sided sticky tape and Velcro!!! ..can you tell?



Here is a very old photo take of me and my three other siblings in a non posed shot! It's mounted on an old bank statment from March 1979 (the month I was born) which my mum gave me.




This last one is a lock of Sapphire hair saved from her first haircut when she was two. I've left a space for Indianna's lock which I think will be brown? so it should look pretty cool.

Martha Stewart inspiration

I got totally inspired the other day when looking through the latest Martha Stewart Mag. there was a woman who instead of doing scrap booking in a book she had done it in picture frames and had wall of special family moments with memorabilia in the frames too.
So I went out and got a load of white frames and got cracking on my own version.
What I like about this is instead of having family albums loaded with baby pics I can simply choose a select few and do a themed frame for each one.

serious about flowers

I got totally inspired the other week when I saw these flower hats on a website.
I have now made my own (cheaper) version.
All you need is a beanie hat, Velcro and fabric flowers (I got mine from dollar store)
I've sewn Velcro to the back of the flower and the beanie so that I can put a variety of different coloured flowers on the two beanies I own.
I've taken the flower apart so that there is no plastic backing, instead there is a button in the centre of each flower.
If your really committed to flower power then you can go for the 'serious' flower application which is the two in one extravaganza!
The is such a simple project and I love the end result.
