Ho hum

Nothing to report...sigh.

40 weeks

So I went to the Dr yesterday (at 40 weeks) and she said that I'm 2 cms dilated and 50% afaced, she did a sweep which wasn't the nicest thing in the world and I felt very uncomfortable for the rest of the day but the night past very uneventfully (apart from sleeping very well and waking up rested).
So here's to another day.

A few weeks ago I never would of believed that I could actually be ready for this baby to arrive. There was so much to do and on top of that I didn't feel like I was in the right head space or emotional space to be ready.
But here we are on the due date and I actually, finally feel ready..and waiting.
The stress of the last few months is fading away.
I don't really like the feeling of waiting I'd rather be busy doing something and then..'oh what's this? I think I'm in labour!' But maybe there is a natural readiness that is important and the waiting around gets you so desperate and bored that you just want to get on with it.
Over the weekend Joseph was great, he gave me hours of time to myself to prepare the house and wrap up the final details..like packing the hospital bag and getting the car seat washed and ready.
There is never a lack of things to do around here but none of it is urgent now and this photo of an empty clean car seat pretty much sums up how we're feeling at the moment.
Joseph calls several times a day asking if everything is ok (he's so itching for things to get going as well as start his two week parental leave) he leaves me numbers for every house and place he visits 'just in case'.
So we're finally at that tedious place of kicking our heels and wondering if the whole baby thing is a hoax and it's never really going to happen?
Time will tell if it is a hoax but last night I did get a horrible 'I've changed my mind' moment when I thought about the birth and decided that I really didn't want to go through with it after all....but what can one do? There's no way back now!

snow bench

Darn it! I totally forgot to do a 'Before' picture of this bench. I bought it last week at a yard sale and worked them down to $10. It was a very dark green and was chipped and worn so this week it's been painted up and I've just upholstered it. This is destined for the front entrance so we can put our snow boots inside as well as sit the kids on it for making them snow proof.
I'm really liking this piece now that it's been worked on and it's becoming a friend already.

Chesty

The previous owners actually left this wood chest and when we moved in we took over ownership of it. Since then it's been on a little journey...from toy chest, to play centre, back to a chest and now it's had a major make over so that we can use it for all our hats and scarfs in the winter. What I love about upholstering furniture is that it's so darn easy and so darn quick, I did this lid in about 10 minutes flat and it completely transforms the piece. Again I used a duvet cover for the top fabric as this is the most cost affective way of getting hold of Cath Kidston prints (this side of the pond).
I plan to upholster some PVC onto of fabric because I know it's going to be a hot spot for cats paws and kids paws!

I received a package today (always exciting) from my Sister Sophie in Holland. And what a lot of goodies there were inside (although we're not aloud to open any of them until after the baby is born). Sophie wrote that it is a Dutch tradition to receive presents like this and to open one per day for 7 days after the baby arrives. So we're going to have to excises a fair amount of self control for at least the next few weeks...although we did cave when we saw this little hat which wasn't wrapped in paper and couldn't resist trying it on.
